About Hazeldoor

A small company, on purpose.

We look after rental homes across the Portland metro for owners with one to fifty homes, and we keep our book small enough to know every one of them by its address.

Why we started

Built the other way around.

Most property management is built for scale. Owners become account numbers, residents become ticket numbers, and houses get attention only when something breaks.

Hazeldoor is built the other way around. A small number of homes, each one known by its address, looked after by people who live nearby and pick up the phone. It is slower to grow that way. We think it is the only way to do the job well.

Responsible licensee

Michael Osborn

Principal Broker, licensed in Oregon

The Hazeldoor team works under Michael's license. As principal broker, he oversees the client trust accounts and every management agreement, and he is the licensee accountable to the Oregon Real Estate Agency for how your home and your money are handled.

How we are set up

The careful parts, done properly.

The things that protect owners and residents. We think you should know them before you choose us.

Licensed

Looking after rentals for others in Oregon requires a real estate license. Ours is held by Michael Osborn, principal broker, license no. 201219974.

Trust accounts

Rent and security deposits are held in separate client trust accounts, never mixed with company money, and reconciled every month.

Written agreements

We look after nothing without a written agreement that sets out every fee, what each side does, and how either side can end it.

Fair housing

We follow federal, Oregon and local fair housing law, and treat every applicant and resident the same way.

The name

Why Hazeldoor.

Oregon grows nearly all of America’s hazelnuts, and a door is what we look after. Our mark puts the two together: an arched door with a hazelnut for its handle. Simple enough to read on a phone, and on a yard sign in the rain.
